Our Partners: Pro Mujer

Founded in 1990 in Bolivia, Pro Mujer has become one of Latin America’s leading organizations committed to the empowerment of women. Their integrated approach offers access to finance, health and educational services, thus supporting their clients by creating opportunities and helping them start and grow their own businesses. Pro Mujer is also focusing on issues like gender-based violence and teen pregnancy and migration crises and advancing health care for women by raising awareness and ensuring more women have access to preventive and treatment care.

Pro Mujer operates in Argentina, Bolivia, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru, and is headquartered in New York City. The organization cooperates with corporate and foundation partners (such as USAID, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, KIVA, The Womanity Foundation) to expand their outreach. Pro Mujer also collaborates with government agencies and social enterprises operating on a local, national and international level.

Since 1990, 1,600 staff members and a wide network of Pro Mujer have helped over 2 million women in Latin America by providing access to 9 million health interventions and disbursing small loans to entrepreneurial women amounting to a total of $3.6 billion. Using new digital solutions, Pro Mujer also focuses on disease prevention, mental health and well-being and is developing virtual training opportunities. Since 2020, URIDU Audiopedia tools are helping Pro Mujer to scale their efforts: 120 educational programs have already been made available at no cost to Pro Mujer’s 43,000 beneficiaries in Nicaragua. The materials are tailored for Pro Mujer women and include information on a wide range of topics, including health, nutrition, family planning, and childcare.
